Procedure Details
Lipoma removal is a minor surgical procedure used to remove benign fatty lumps beneath the skin, helping to relieve discomfort or improve appearance where a lipoma is bothersome.
Lipoma removal is usually performed under local anaesthetic through a small incision over the lump. The lipoma is carefully separated from the surrounding tissue and removed, after which the incision is closed with sutures. The procedure is generally straightforward and is commonly carried out as a day-case treatment. Recovery is usually relatively quick, although some temporary bruising, swelling and tenderness can be expected. Any removed tissue may be sent for laboratory analysis where clinically appropriate.
Follow up
Wound/dressing review at 7-10 days; surgeon review at around 4-8 weeks.
